Commercial and Industrial Engineering
Pickett. Ray & Silver provides extensive engineering services to developers of commercial and industrial properties. This includes land design and planning for grading, drainage, utilities, erosion, parking lots, and construction layout.
We work with development teams building new developments, subdivision, and multi-family homes. We provide design and planning to optimize the layout of the properties. This benefits residents and increases their enjoyment of the landscape, views, and common grounds.
Pickett, Ray & Silver has worked with municipal governments on properties, designing parks and trails. As a certified woman-owned business, the process for government entities to hire us is streamlined, making it quicker and easier to get projects underway.
Our clients have included public utilities, such as the Metropolitan Sewer District. We provide engineering design for stormwater drainage and sewers. We’ve also completed comprehensive studies on flood plains and wastewater systems. We have designed roads and highways for the Missouri Department of Transportation.
New Urbanism and Sustainable Design
We’ve incorporated new urbanism and sustainable design into many of the projects we have engineered.
New urbanism refers to an approach whereby the planning and development of property focus on human-scaled urban design. It incorporates the principles of how cities had been built in the past, with more access to common space, sidewalks, housing and shopping within walking distance.
New urbanism is an alternative to the sprawling, single-family homes on large lots that became popular post-WWII. Some believe new urbanism promotes healthier and more positive impacts on communities.
The urban design principles can apply to new development, as well as neighborhood revitalization and preservation. It can be used in both urban and suburban areas, rural regions, and dense city centers.
Sustainable design and development – In accordance with the World Commission on the Environment and Development, “…our design professionals meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
Sustainable design encompasses the use of products and processes that meet the long-term needs of the consumers while conserving the environment. Pickett, Ray & Silver incorporates sustainable design into our projects by evaluating and anticipating the environmental, economic, and social impacts and costs of the design and development.
We consider several factors in our sustainable design solutions, including lifespan, energy savings, durability, renewability, and recyclability.
